Halfway House enjoys a beautiful Riverside setting in the hamlet of Clappersgate on the edge of the River Brathay, with Ambleside just a five minute drive away and a short distance from the stunning Langdale Valley. This former toll house is a beautiful 17th-century property that offers a unique blend of history, comfort, and modern convenience and is the ideal base for exploring the Lake District.

Cosy Lounge: With its original features, lovingly preserved and highlighted through recent refurbishments, Halfway House brings together the warmth of a historic home and the comforts of today.

Inside, you’ll find cosy spaces with all the essentials for a memorable stay, plus plenty of room for family and friends to relax. Unwind in the cosy living area by the wood burner in the impressive inglenook fireplace, complete with plenty of comfortable seating, Smart TV, DVD player, and CD player for your entertainment.

Open-Plan Dining Room & Kitchen: Fully equipped with an electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine, this space is perfect for shared meals. French doors lead out to the decking, where you can enjoy alfresco dining with beautiful views.

Outdoor Space and Parking

The patio garden is a tranquil spot to enjoy the outdoors, complete with garden furniture and beautiful countryside and river views. There is also a large garden area leading down to the River (children and dogs should be supervised at all times). Private parking in the drive for up to three cars.

Halfway House is part of a small complex of properties set just off the road between Ambleside and Skelwith Bridge. This fantastic location is perfect for nature lovers, with a variety of scenic walks and cycle paths right on your doorstep. Though Ambleside is nearby, we recommend driving due to the lack of a footpath along the road. For those up for a scenic adventure, a walking path over Loughrigg Fell offers stunning views and leads directly to Ambleside, starting from just across the road.

💳 Damage Deposit: At Laik, we place a £200 deposit hold on your card as a safety measure, ensuring a carefree stay for both you and us. This isn’t a charge, just a temporary hold. Expect this to be set up either the day before you arrive or on your check-in date.

Once you’ve checked out and we’ve made sure everything’s as lovely as when you arrived, we’ll promptly release the hold, freeing up those funds for you. It’s all part of making your stay smooth and secure.
