Welcome to Steps Cottage –a homely little spot tucked between Windermere and Bowness. It’s full of traditional charm and just a short walk from the lake and either village, making it a great base for exploring the area on foot.

Inside the Cottage

Living/Dining Room: The lounge is simple, cosy and just the place to relax after a day out, with a comfy sofa, log burner (logs not supplied), dining table and Smart TV (own login required).
Kitchen: Well equipped with everything you need, cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher.
Bedroom: The bedroom has a king-size bed, fitted wardrobe, dressing table and a hairdryer, no fuss, just a good night’s sleep.
Bathroom: Separate bathroom with shower, basin, WC and heated towel rail.

Outside Space

There are a couple of seating areas to the front and side of the cottage, with a lawned patch too, handy if you’ve brought the dog along.

Location Highlights

The Lake: It’s just a short stroll (15 minutes) downhill to Lake Windermere, perfect for a morning walk or evening wander.
Nearby Villages: Bowness and Windermere are both close by for shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Getting Around: If you’re not driving, there’s good public transport nearby with buses running to Ambleside and beyond.

Property Layout

Full Access: Guests have full access to the entire house including the garden.

Entrance: A few steps take you up to the front door from the parking area.

Ground Floor – All accommodation is on this level: Enter into separate kitchen. Inviting living room with comfortable seating, log burner, Smart TV (own login required) and dining area for two. Bedroom with King Size bed. Shower room with basin, WC and heated towel rail.

Parking: Convenient on-site parking for one car is available immediately in front of the cottage, making your stay and travel in the area hassle-free.

Things to know

🐕 Pet-Friendly (£30 per stay): One well-behaved small/medium dog is welcome to join the adventure, ensuring the entire family can enjoy the beauty of the Lakes together (just remember to keep the furniture paw-free).

💳 Damage Deposit: At Laik, we place a £200 deposit hold on your card as a safety measure, ensuring a carefree stay for both you and us. This isn’t a charge, just a temporary hold. Expect this to be set up either the day before you arrive or on your check-in date.

Once you’ve checked out and we’ve made sure everything’s as lovely as when you arrived, we’ll promptly release the hold, freeing up those funds for you. It’s all part of making your stay smooth and secure.

Bowness-on-Windermere, a lively lakeside town, is nearby, offering water activities, charming shops, and a variety of dining options. It’s also home to the World of Beatrix Potter, perfect for family visits. Windermere, with its relaxed vibe, quaint cafes, and traditional pubs, serves as an ideal base for exploring the Lake District’s stunning landscapes, including a must-see view from Orrest Head.

Steps Cottage provides the best of both worlds – a cosy base for relaxation, with the adventure and excitement of the Lake District’s most beloved towns just moments away.

Getting around

Buses:

You’re in luck, as there’s a wealth of bus services running in and around Windermere. Just a stone’s throw away from our property, you’ll find bus stops that’ll connect you to the best of the Lake District.

Bus Route 555, for instance, offers a scenic ride between Lancaster and Keswick, passing through Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere, and more. For trips towards Bowness, Kendal, or Newby Bridge, check out Bus Routes 6, 6X, and 599. And don’t forget Route 599, it’s an open-top service during the summer – perfect for soaking up those breathtaking views!

Trains:

If you’re venturing further afield, Windermere train station is just a 5-minute taxi ride away (or 20 mins walk). With regular services to Oxenholme Lake District station, it conveniently links you with the West Coast mainline. This means you’re directly connected to major UK cities like London, Glasgow, Manchester, and Birmingham – making your journeys a breeze!
