The holiday let industry has a problem. We’ve all seen it on the news and across the world, and if you’re lucky enough to live in a beautiful place like the Lake District (as we do) then you’ll have seen it first-hand.
Mediocre decor, underwhelming guest experiences, half-baked marketing and restrictive booking terms have meant that many Lake District holiday lets stand empty for large parts of the year, resulting in quieter towns and various issues for the local community.
Businesses suffer, job opportunities dwindle, and some people simply can’t afford to live in the towns they call home.
At Laik, we’re working to change that pattern. The lettings industry is here to stay, but we believe it can be done better. We believe it can work for The Lakes and its community – fairer, more sustainable, and more beneficial for local people.
So, what is “The Laik Way”?
We set the bar high in everything we do, from guest experiences to the day-to-day running of our properties. But, for us, what makes our business better for The Lakes boils down to two things;
1. Occupancy
The latest occupancy rate for the Lake District letting market is 53%. Our current average is 83%.
We achieve this through quality design and renovation, flexible booking terms, and proper targeted marketing plans for every property we manage.
The Lakes doesn’t need more holiday lets, just better ones that stay full throughout the year. This brings more money and opportunity to the local area, and creates a healthier future for our towns and villages.
2. Locality
Because we’re locals ourselves, we’re able to ensure that our business benefits the Lake District economy.
From the people we employ to the tradespeople we hire, from the pubs and guides we recommend to the locally-produced toiletries in our bathrooms, everything we need is here and we intend to use it.
The Laik Way isn’t rocket science, it’s just fairer way to operate a lettings business.

Giving Back to the Lakes
The Lake District is more than just where we work, it’s where we live, explore, and feel most at home. That’s why we’ve partnered with the Lake District Foundation, a brilliant charity dedicated to protecting and improving this incredible National Park.
For every Laik booking, we now make a direct donation to the Foundation to support their hands-on work, from planting reedbeds around Windermere to improve water quality, to restoring woodlands and supporting nature-friendly farming.
The Foundation funds projects that protect habitats, tackle climate challenges, and care for the wildlife and culture that make the Lakes so special. It’s practical, local action, and every guest who stays with Laik plays a part in it.
